Morning Minutiae: Stars @ St. Louis

Stars head to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis for a tilt with the Blues. Very difficult back to back games for the Stars versus Central Division opponents. The Red Wings will host Buffalo tonight in Detroit before heading to Dallas to face the Stars tomorrow.

St. Louis continues to work hard and win games. The Blues have allowed only 94 goals against so far this season.  The Wings have a potent offense with 141 goals already this year. The Blues under new head coach have played well. St. Louis is 20-5-6 since Hitchcock took over as head coach.

Hitchcock is one of 15 NHL coaches to have accrued over 500 career wins and he currently ranks 6th among active coaches in games behind the bench and 5th in wins.

The middle of the ice for the Stars takes a different look.  Benn out with an appendectomy and Ribeiro still nursing the knee injury.

Morning Minutiae: Stars vs Avalanche

Dallas will have a short turnaround for this afternoons game against the Avalanche after getting in late from the LA game.  The Stars arrived at 5am on Friday morning and coach Gulutzan is doing everything he can to make sure the boys are ready for this one.  He gave the individual player the option of what they needed to do at the rink yesterday to make sure they are ready for today.

The Avs are continuing a three-game road trip with the game today in Dallas. Colorado lost  3-2 in overtime at Nashville on Thursday night.  After the afternoon tilt, with the Stars, they are off to Phoenix to go head to head with the Coyotes.

Stars have 3 games in hand on the Lanche and are ahead by only 1 point in the Western Conference standings.  Dallas comes into action today with the fewest games played in the conference. Only the NY Rangers and Islander have played fewer total games in the league.

Morning Minutiae: Stars @ LA

Dallas will battle the LA Kings tonight after the 5-2 loss to the Ducks on Tuesday night.  Dallas will be looking to capitalize on the missed chances that they had in Anaheim.

“We’ve got to capitalize on our opportunities,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan after the game with the Ducks. “We did have some opportunities early and especially in another team’s building if you get a chance you’ve got to make good on it. That’s the key. I didn’t mind our defensive game and structure, but at the end of the day you’ve got to get points.”

The Kings are coming off a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Monday night.  LA is in the pattern of win one and loss one just as the Stars continue to do but the Kings are still garnering points.  Under new head coach Daryl Suter the Kings are 6-1-3 and have points in 10 of their last 11 games.

Dallas is 2 points behind the Kings with 2 games in hand. This is another important divisional game coming up at the Staple Center.
