Brent grew up in a small Canadian town of 5000 people dreaming of playing in the NHL.  At age 15 Severyn started his hockey career playing on with his home town team, the Vegreville Junior "B" Rangers.  From that small town team he made the big jump to major junior hockey. After playing 3 years in the Western Hockey League and then 2 years of College hockey for the University of Alberta Golden Bears, Brent played his first NHL game at age 22 against the Montreal Canadeins while playing for the Quebec Nordiques.

Severyn is a seven-year NHL veteran and has 14 years of professional hockey experience under his belt. He played 328 games between Quebec, Florida, the New York Islanders, Colorado, Anaheim and Dallas. Severyn won a national league championship while playing in Europe with the Munich Barons in the DEL. He also won a bronze medal representing Canada in the World Student Games in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia and in 1999, he was member of the Stanley Cup winning Dallas Stars. Severyn was originally drafted by Winnipeg in the fifth round (99th overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.

Before turning pro, Brent laid out everything he wanted to do “after” his professional hockey career was complete. He wanted to pursue broadcasting while also mentoring and training young athletes both at the professional and amateur levels.

Severyn is in his now in his 20th season as a TV NHL analyst. He now spreads his time working for Fox Sports South West as the pre and post game show analyst for the Dallas Stars games and continues to work with and mentor hockey players of all ages.

Severyn continues to be actively involved in the community and has been the recipient of the community service award for both the Anaheim Ducks and the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

Brent and his wife, Jill resides in Plano, Texas. They have two children Avery (16) and Jack (14).
